2016 Summer Soirée Wrap-Up:

Healthcare Foundation Raises More Than $500,000 at Summer Soiree Event to Benefit Local Health Providers

Dollar-for-dollar matching commitments by both the Kalmanovitz Foundation and the Kight Family results in unanticipated four-to-one donation ratio

HEALDSBURG, CA —  August 8, 2016 – Saturday, July 30, 2016, dinner guests attending the Healthcare Foundation’s Summer Soireé fundraiser hosted by Comstock Wines, raised their paddles early and often to support local healthcare.  Their generosity resulted in more than $500,000 for healthcare related technology, innovation, programs and services in Northern Sonoma County.

“During the Summer Soiree auction, we received a match from the Kight Family for the first $100,000 of gifts raised in the auction,” said Debbie Mason, chief executive officer of the Healthcare Foundation. “Thanks to the generosity of the Kalmanovitz Foundation we were able to double every dollar donated, resulting in four dollars for the Foundation for every dollar donated. That’s an incredible demonstration of community support for our local healthcare providers,” she added.

Much of the success was due to the generous sponsorship of Big John’s Market and Brandt Insurance, plus the generous support of Andrea Mugnaini of Mugnaini wood-fired ovens, who created gourmet pizzas for Soireé guests on her Ferrari-red pizza oven. The event also received nearly 100 percent participation of in-kind donors and volunteers who covered the cost of everything from the Comstock Wines event space and wine to guest chef Louis Maldonado, auction lots, musical guests Mr. December and Two Lions, Encore Events rentals and much more.

Following a short video presentation highlighting personal healthcare testimonials, celebrity emcee Andrew Firestone of Stone Park Capital, and auctioneer California State Senator Mike McGuire, kicked off the Fund-A-Need Appeal to raise money for a magnetic resonance imaging machine (MRI) for Healdsburg District Hospital. That appeal alone, resulted in over $105,000 plus matching funds, to bring the MRI closer to becoming reality.

“There is a shortage of MRI machines in Sonoma County, which means it can take weeks to get a non-emergency diagnosis for most patients,” said Nancy Schmid, chief executive officer, Healdsburg District Hospital. “With our own MRI, our patients won’t have to wait to schedule their procedure,” she added.

At the beginning of 2016 the Healthcare Foundation needed to raise $730,000 to meet the matching challenge gift issued by the Kalmanovitz Foundation.  Thanks to this event and other recent gifts, the remaining amount needed to be raised for the new MRI is $130,000.

“I’m just amazed by the outpouring of support in a single evening,” said board member and event co-chair Ariel Kelley. “We’re so grateful for the generosity of our guests and the entire community.  Because of their help, we can continue to keep high quality healthcare close to our homes, schools and places of work. That’s so important living in a rural community like ours,” she added.

In addition to Summer Soireé, the Healthcare Foundation hosts several other major events - the annual Wetzel Community Awards Luncheon held each November, and Wine Women & Shoes, scheduled for Spring 2017.
